Abstract

A method for providing broadcast contents information and a broadcast service method in the system are provided to transmit information about broadcast contents being currently broadcast with a smaller amount of data, and allows a broadcast reception terminal to discriminate broadcast contents with a smaller amount of calculation. A broadcast server(200) broadcasts packets including a broadcast contents ID corresponding to broadcast contents of each broadcast channel being currently broadcast. When a particular broadcast channel is selected by a user, a digital broadcast reception terminal(220) receives packets provided via the selected broadcast channel, checks contents information corresponding to a contents ID included in the received packets by using previously stored broadcast composition information to thus check received broadcast contents. The broadcast server includes a broadcast contents ID corresponding to broadcast contents of each broadcast channel being currently broadcast in additional packets different from multimedia packets for providing broadcast contents of each broadcast channel, and transmits the same.
