This embodiment is particularly useful for predicting gamma characteristics in displays with average power (or image) level dependence. A novel method and system provides accurate prediction of the gamma characteristics of display systems driven through different power levels depending on input content. This embodiment finds the correct gamma curve for a given average power level (APL). Gamma is then calculated from the displayed APL change. Advantageously, a more appropriate gamma correction is applied to changes in the APL on the display to remove the APL dependence.

Abstract

A method and system for gamma adjustment for average power level dependency displays includes applying gamma controlled functions over a range of values at a plurality of average power levels (APLs) for a display. The gamma controlled functions include coefficients for reconstruction of the gamma controlled functions. Upon a change to an APL, interpolation is performed between the coefficients topredict a new gamma controlled function for the new APL.
