Abstract

A radio communication device having a plurality of antennas (11-1 to 11-M) diversity-synthesizes reception signals of antennas (11-1 to 11-M) and performs communication while switching the modulation method in accordance with the radio condition. The radio communication device includes: first synthesis units (23, 24) which synthesize reception power of the antennas (11-1 to 11-M) according to a first algorithm; second synthesis units (21-1 to 21-M, 22, 23) which synthesize reception power of the antennas (11-1 to 11-M) according to a second algorithm different from the first algorithm; and a control unit (15) which selects the first synthesis units (23, 24) or the second synthesis units (21-1 to 21-M, 22, 23) according to the modulation method so as to synthesize reception power of the antennas (11-1 to 11-M). Thus, when performing radio communication by using the adaptive modulation method, it is possible to reduce the affect of multi-path fading accompanied by a delayed arriving wave in a different modulation method even if the number of reception antennas is small so as to always maintain a stable reception state.
