Abstract

The invention relates to a system and a method for the remote sensing measurement of automobile emissions. The system comprises a radiation source, a radiation detection unit and a processing unit, wherein the processing unit comprises: a module for calculating percent concentration of CO2 according to %CO2 = c x (%CO/%CO2)2 + d x (%CO/%CO2) + e; and a module for respectively calculating the percent concentration of each component in tail gas according to the percent concentration of CO2. Implementing the system and the method for the remote sensing measurement of automobile emissions has no need of solving stoichiometric combustion equation to calculate the concentration of CO2; assumption for the content of hydrogen and carbon in fuel or tail gas is not required; signal readings measured by a detector are used for generating correct concentration of CO2; in the process of measurement, assumption for the stoichiometric operation (e.g. under the optimal air/fuel ratio) of vehicle is not required; and during real-time remote sensing measurement, the concentration of CO2 is calculated for every vehicle according to tail gas plume.
