Abstract

The invention relates to a multi-speed transmission with planetary and layshaft gears. The transmission includes a coaxial input member, output member, intermediate member, and simple planetary gear set. A first and a second layshaft are arranged to define a second and a third axis of rotation, respectively. The transmission has five sets of intermeshing gears, some of which are arranged to transfer torque from the input member to the layshafts, and others of which are arranged to transfer torque from the layshafts to one of the intermediate member and the simple planetary gear set. The transmission has eight torque-transmitting mechanisms that are each selectively engagable to connect a different respective gear of the intermeshing sets of gears to a respective one of the layshafts or to a stationary member. The torque-transmitting mechanisms are engagable in different combinations to establish up to fourteen forward speed ratios and a reverse speed ratio between the input member and the output member.

Description

[0001] This application claims the benefit of Russian Patent Application No. 2010112592 filed on March 31, 2010, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a multi-speed planetary transmission having a layshaft with gears establishing five sets of intermeshing transfer gears and a simple planetary gear set. Background technique [0003] A motor vehicle includes a powertrain consisting of an engine, a multi-speed transmission and a differential or final drive. Multi-speed transmissions increase the overall operating range of a motor vehicle by allowing the engine to operate multiple times through its torque range. The number of forward speed ratios available in the transmission determines how many times the engine torque range is repeated. Early automatic transmissions had two speed ranges. This severely limits the vehicle's overall speed range, thus requiring a relatively large engine capable of prod...
