Embodiment Construction

[0032] refer to image 3 and Figure 4 , the test switch 50 is shown with the individual switches removed for clarity. The test switch 50 includes a pair of mounting posts 52 extending forwardly from a front surface 54 of the test switch 50 . Each post 52 includes a threaded region 56 . Each post 52 further includes a bore 58 proximate its end.

[0033] now refer to Figure 5 and Figure 6 , the cover assembly 59 may be located on the front surface of the test switch 50 . Housing assembly 59 includes housing 60 having a pair of apertures 61 through which at least a portion of threaded region 56 extends. In a rotational manner, the wing nut 62 is rotationally received and fastened by the threaded portion 56 so that the housing 60 is held fixedly against the test switch 50 . After the housing 60 is sufficiently fastened against the test switch 50, a retaining clip (not shown) may be inserted into the aperture 58 to prevent the housing 60 from being removed.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a cover assembly for protecting a test switch having a pair of forwardly extending, opposed posts. The cover assembly includes cover having a pair of holes on opposed sides of the front face. A thumbnut is secured within each hole. Each thumbnut includes a nut having internal threads to rotatably engage the posts extending from the cover. The nut is made of a magnetic material such that, when removed, the cover assembly may be secured to any metallic surface.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 157218, entitled "Test Switch Cover Assembly" and filed March 4, 2009, adopted in its entirety References are incorporated herein. Background technique [0002] Protective relays are commonly used in electrical utility applications to detect many possible problems in electrical power output. These relays protect a wide variety of equipment and are used in relay systems that also include circuit breakers. The primary function of a relay is to provide a trip signal to a circuit breaker. [0003] Typically, current transformers and voltage transformers are used to obtain signals in high current and / or high voltage applications. Transformers reduce the magnitude of current or voltage and feed the signal back to relays, gauges, and instruments at very low levels for detection. The terminals of the relay may then be electrically connected to the terminals or poles of the detection switch. Each detecti...
