Embodiment Construction

[0030] Embodiments of the present invention relate to structures for removing burrs from golf balls. The need to deburr golf balls arises from the methods commonly used to mold golf balls. Golf balls are often manufactured using an injection molding process. Injection molding processes typically use molds that include various discontinuities. Each discontinuity can cause burrs to form on the outer surface of the ball.

[0031] figure 1 Shown is the molding step representing the application of the final layer on the golf ball. The final forming step can be the addition of skins, topcoats, or any final forming step the designer may deem necessary. The remaining layers from the interior of the ball to the final molded layer may be collectively referred to as interior layers and numbered 102 . In some embodiments, layer 102 is a separate layer or core. In other embodiments, layers 102 may include cores, mid layers, covers, other mid layers, or inserts, either alone or in com...

Abstract

The invention discloses a method of deburring ball. A controller controls an abrasive to move to one or more desired position of a ball and rotates to ball to abrade a surface and to remove burrs. The method specifically comprises: providing a first abrasive to abrade the burrs and forming a material to remove the burrs from the outer surface of the ball; connecting the first abrasive to the regulatory structure capable of controlling a relative position of the first abrasive and the ball; calculating an appropriate position of the first abrasive and moving the first abrasive to the appropriate position. The method in the invention can precisely control the abrasive level on the ball, abrade the surface uniformly and consistently and furthest ensure the performance of the ball.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a method for deburring a golf ball. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for deburring a ball in which a controller moves abrasive to one or more desired locations on the ball and rotates the ball to abrade the surface and deburr it. Background technique [0002] Many golf balls are made of multiple layers. Many of these golf balls are manufactured using injection molding techniques. While typical golf ball mold interior surfaces are mostly smooth, various surface discontinuities exist in common molding techniques. [0003] In many cases, golf balls are molded using injection molds. When using injection molding dies, various features are common. First, there is usually an opening for inserting the nozzle into the mold cavity. Second, there are often one or more vent holes to vent air as the mold is filled with resin or other material. Finally, there may be holes for pins into whic...
