Abstract

The invention provides a method and a device for detecting a multicast transmission path. The device comprises a message transceiving unit, a path analyzing unit and a detection processing unit, wherein the message transceiving unit is used for sending a unicast detection message or a multicast detection message to a head jump router to detect a unicast or multicast transmission path reaching an appointed multicast source, and receiving a unicast detection reply message or a muticast detection reply message; the path analyzing unit is used for determining the transmission path information of the multicast source according to the unicast detection reply message, and the transmission path information comprises the connection relationship among a plurality of routers on the transmission path; and the detection processing unit is used for analyzing the multicast detection reply message, indicating the message transceiving unit to resend the multicast detection message when error information is analyzed, and taking the next jump router of the router with the added error information as a new head jump router. According to the invention, a user can be assisted to acquire the situation of the multicast transmission path reaching the appointed multicast source in a network accurately and completely.
