Problems solved by technology

However, known connector systems do not include a direct connection between the folded ground tab and the side shield of the receptacle connector, which causes the folded ground tab to act as a resonant structure in high frequency applications that can cause crosstalk

Embodiment Construction

[0010] figure 1 is a perspective view of an exemplary embodiment of an electrical connector system 100 showing a receptacle assembly 102 and a header assembly 104 that may be mated directly together. Receptacle assembly 102 and / or header assembly 104 may be referred to hereinafter individually as a "connector assembly" or collectively as a "connector assembly". The socket and plug assemblies 102 , 104 are each electrically connected to a respective circuit board 106 , 108 . The socket and header assemblies 102, 104 are used to electrically connect the circuit boards 106, 108 to each other at separable mating interfaces. In the exemplary embodiment, the circuit boards 106, 108 are oriented perpendicular to each other when the receptacle and header assemblies 102, 104 are mated. Alternative orientations of the circuit boards 106, 108 are also possible in alternate embodiments.

[0011] The mating shaft 110 extends through the receptacle and plug assemblies 102 , 104 . The re...

Abstract

A receptacle assembly (102) includes a contact module (122) having a conductive holder (202) has a first side (222) and an opposite second side (223). The conductive holder has a chamber (210) between the first and second sides. A frame assembly (230) is received in the chamber of the conductive holder. The frame assembly includes a plurality of contacts (124) and a dielectric frame (240) supporting the contacts. The contacts extend from the conductive holder and are connected to the header signal contacts (144) of a header assembly (104) for electrical termination. A ground lead frame (204) is received in the chamber between the frame assembly and the conductive holder. The ground lead frame has grounding members (302) that extend from the conductive holder for electrical termination to header shields (146) of the header assembly (104).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an electrical connector with a ground shield. Background technique [0002] Electrical systems, such as those used in networking and telecommunications systems, employ socket and plug connectors to interconnect components in the system, such as motherboards and daughterboards. However, as the need for speed and performance increases, known electrical connectors have proven inadequate. Signal loss and / or signal degradation is a problem in known electrical systems. Additionally, there is a need to increase the density of electrical connectors to increase the output of electrical systems without significantly increasing, and in some cases reducing, the size of the electrical connectors. Increases in density and / or decreases in size lead to further limitations on performance. [0003] To meet performance, some known systems employ shields to reduce interference between electrical connector contacts. However, the shields...
