Abstract

The invention relates to an immersion-type capillary space protein crystallization chamber. The chamber has a full shock absorption function. The chamber comprises capillary protein solution pools and a porous precipitant solution pool, wherein the protein solution pools are glass capillary of organic or inorganic materials, and the two kinds of pools are communicated through gel plugs being with a volume of 3-5 [mu]m and prepared through gelation of hydrosol containing 0.5-2 % of agarose, thereby forming channels for diffusion and transferring of experimental substances. The capillaries filled with protein solutions and gel plugs are wrapped by foaming adsorption materials, and immersed in the precipitant solution, so that the capillaries are good in shock-absorption and sealing effects, and crystals in the capillaries can be prevented from being damaged by collision. The precipitant solution pool is sealed by a U-shaped metal cover, and the cover is hanged through a square hole on a side surface of the cover and a boss on a side surface of the pool.

Description

Technical field:

[0001] The invention relates to a device for growing protein crystals in a space microgravity environment. Background technique:

[0002] Space science research experiments have few opportunities and high costs, which require experimental devices to be small in size, light in weight, large in capacity, and low in power consumption. Spanish scientists therefore developed the Granada Crystallization Box (GCB), a capillary space protein crystallization chamber, with a capillary diameter of 0.1-1.5 mm and a length of 70 mm. Each small box is equipped with 6 capillaries, and 20 small boxes are packed into a small box. The box consumes no electricity (Juan Ma. Garcia-Ruiz, Luis Antonio Gonzalez-Ramirez, José Antonio Gavira and Fermín Otálora. Granada Crystallisation Box: a new device for protein crystallisation by counter-diffusion techniques. Acta Crystallographica, (2002). D58, 1638 -1642). However, because the spacecraft is subjected to strong vibration, shoc...
