Abstract

A system for moving particles suspended in a first fluid for infusion into a flow of a second fluid includes a catheter with a multilumen distal separator. The separator is formed with a plurality of parallel chambers, each chamber having a predetermined diameter. Importantly, the diameter of each cavity is sized to sequentially receive passing particles to prevent flocculation of the particles before they enter the second fluid stream. A recollection chamber in fluid communication with the separator allows for reconsolidation of the fluid after exiting the separator and for minimizing damage to the vessel as the fluid exits the catheter. An inflatable balloon secured to the outside of the catheter may be provided to regulate the flow of the second fluid, thereby facilitating entry of particles into the flow of the second fluid and increasing retention of the particles in the target tissue.
