Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for assisting a user in performing preoperative planning during surgery, the method comprising generating a physical natural tissue model of natural patient tissue. The surgically physically native tissue model includes at least one primary patient tissue region containing a surface of interest, at least one secondary patient tissue region not containing a surface of interest, and a base surface for engaging a support structure. The physical native tissue model, when generated, includes at least one informative feature that provides clinically useful information to the user. The informational features are substantially detached from the surface of interest. Also provided is a device for assisting a user in performing preoperative planning during surgery.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application No. 13 / 463,075, filed May 3, 2012, which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. Patent Application No. 13 / 282,550, filed October 27, 2011, and also claims Priority to US Provisional Application No. 61 / 408,392, filed October 29, 2010, the contents of all patents are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a preoperative planning system, and more particularly, to a system for preoperative planning and provision of patient-specific surgical aids. Background technique [0004] The scapula, commonly known as the "shoulder blade," is the flat, triangular bone that sits behind the upper ribs. Figures 1A, 1B and 1C show posterior, anterior and right side views of the right scapula 100, respectively. The posterior surface of the scapula 100 is readily felt through the patient's skin. The scapula 100 serves as an attachment point for some o...
