Embodiment Construction

[0022] The illustrative embodiments recognize and take into account the limitations and disadvantages of existing radio network emulation systems. The illustrative embodiments thus provide systems and methods for radio network emulation where users can assume various roles and receive appropriate access rights and communication capabilities. Users invited to participate in a simulated radio session can access configuration files from network locations. When the profile is executed, the profile provides an application programming interface (API), a network protocol interface, and an audio streaming interface. A configuration file can be specific to a simulated radio session and can be created by a designated user who organizes the session.

[0023] In one embodiment, organizations or entities seeking to create simulations of air and sea warfare and / or battlefield environments may seek to establish voice networks that realistically simulate radio communications in such environm...

Abstract

A method of radio simulation is provided for use in warfare and battleground simulations involving multiple participants. The method includes a first computer (102) executing a communication manager (116) which is configured to provide a radio simulation environment comprising a virtual radio network. The method also includes the first computer (102) executing a communication management controller (118) which receives radio control input for the virtual radio network. The method also includes the first computer (102) executing a tactical and environment cue controller (120) which is configured to provide simulated audible sounds for the radio simulation environment. The method also includes the first computer (102) executing a configuration controller (122) which is coupled to the communication manager (116) and is configured to receive at least one radio simulator configuration that designates at least a number of radios and frequencies.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to communication systems and, more particularly, to voice communication systems that provide a flexible simulated radio environment for use in war and battlefield simulations involving multiple participants. Background technique [0002] Emulated radio networks have traditionally relied on hardware-centric configurations where individual users provide their own hardware. These users must also configure software specific to the hardware. When roles change, users must also reconfigure their software, tasks, which may exceed the capabilities and time constraints of many users. Such existing systems do not provide the flexibility to rapidly change configurations regarding users, roles and privilege levels. [0003] Such existing systems require custom hardware and support and engineering teams to build implementations. In many cases, previous emulated networks only run on specific software platforms and are provid...
