A method for selecting a cell by a user equipment (UE) to receive a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) service in a mobile communication system which supports the MBMS service with different frequency allocations (FAs) in the same area. In the method, a radio network controller (RNC) transmits information on an MBMS cell to the UE, and the MBMS cell information includes an MBMS offset for guaranteeing priority for cell reselection to the MBMS cell. The UE performs cell reselection using the MBMS cell information and receives the MBMS service from the reselected cell.

An apparatus and method are provided for performing scheduling in a Node B for data transmission of a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication system supporting an enhanced uplink dedicated channel (E-DCH). The UE determines whether the best cell is an intra-node B cell or inter-node B cell with the serving cell from the network. If the best cell is an intra-node B cell, the UE signals the node B of the best cell, the node B switches to the best cell directly and UE receives the data from the target cell directly, and then Node B reports the switch to a radio network controller (RNC) that completes the final switching to the best cell by the RNC. If the best cell is an inter-node B cell, the UE signals the RNC of the best cell directly, whereupon the RNC sends the UE an acknowledgment without waiting for the completeness of the network configurations. The RNC re-routes data to the best cell, and the UE switches to the best cell after receiving the acknowledgment.

Mechanisms to extend UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) or GAN (General Access Network) to inter-work with a UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) core network. A Node B of a telecommunication network is permitted to manage and assign a certain share of the downlink transmission resources of a radio network controller without inquiry of said radio network controller. On reception of a resource request message from a user equipment, the node B derives and specifies a certain amount of said resources that can be allocated to the user equipment. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention said resources are only assigned temporarily until the ordinary RL setup procedure, which involves the RNC, has been successfully finished.
