A network controller for managing a set of interconnection switching elements that connect segmented networks to a shared physical interconnection network. The network controller includes i) an interface for receiving a logical control plane definition of a logical switching element that couples to a set of network segments at different segmented networks; ii) a control application for translating the logical control plane definition of the logical switching element into a first set of flow entries in a logical forwarding plane; and iii) a virtualization application for translating the first set of flow entries into a second set of flow entries in a physical control plane. Some embodiments provide a virtualizer for managing a plurality of managed switching elements that forward data through a network. The virtualizer comprises a first set of tables for storing input logical forwarding plane data and a second set of tables for storing output physical control plane data. It also includes a table mapping engine for mapping the input logical forwarding plane data in the first set of tables to output physical control plane data in the second set of tables by performing a set of database join operations on the input logical forwarding plane data in the first set of tables. A network control system for generating physical control plane data for managing first and second managed forwarding elements that implement forwarding operations associated with a first logical datapath set is described. The system includes a first controller instance for converting logical control plane data for the first logical datapath set to universal physical control plane (UPCP) data. The system further includes a second controller instance for converting UPCP data to customized physical control plane (CPCP) data for the first managed forwarding element but not the second managed forwarding element.

A technique dynamically responds to non-network events at a network device in a computer network. According to the novel technique, one or more sensors automatically detect (sense) one or more non-network events, and notifications of the non-network events are then transmitted over the network. One or more network devices (e.g., data centers, servers, routers, etc.) detect the notifications of the network events, and dynamically respond to the non-network events based on one or more associated policies. For example, one or more network-based policies may be defined that modify one or more network configuration parameters in response to the non-network events. Alternatively or in addition, one or more physical-based policies may be defined that instruct one or more network-attached physical control devices to modify one or more physical parameters.

Disclosed herein is a controller architecture that pairs a controller with a NVM (non-volatile memory) storage system over a high-level, high speed interface such as PCIe. In one embodiment, the NVM storage system includes a bridge that communicates with the controller via the high-level interface, and controls the NVM via an interface (e.g., ONFI). The controller is provided a rich set of physical level of controls over individual elements of the NVM. In one embodiment, the controller is implemented in a higher powered processor that supports advanced functions such as mapping, garbage collection, wear leveling, etc. In one embodiment, the bridge is implemented in a lower powered processor and performs basic signal processing, channel management, basic error correction functions, etc. This labor division provides the controller physical control of the NVM over a fast, high-level interface, resulting in the controller managing the NVM at both the page and block level.

A network control system for managing a plurality of switching elements that implement a plurality of logical datapath sets. The network control system includes first and second controllers for generating requests for modifications to first and second logical datapath sets. The first controller is further for determining whether to make modifications to the first logical datapath set. The second controller is further for determining whether to make modifications to the second logical datapath set. Each controller is further for receiving logical control plane data that specifies logical datapath sets and for converting the logical control plane data to physical control plane data for propagating to the switching elements.

A method for wireless backhaul communication between a base station and a relay is disclosed. The base station enables a physical control channel to be set up, separately from the terminal that is used to transmit control information to each relay and the physical downlink control channel that has been set up. The base station can transmit data to the relay based on this control information. In a special embodiment, physical downlink control channel transmissions can be minimized by prescribing in advance the transmission of control information between the base station and the relay.

This invention mitigates interference in wireless telephony in heterogeneous networks having a macro base station and a low power base station. This invention attempts to avoid cross carrier scheduling on an anchor carrier and a non-anchor carrier. If cross carrier scheduling is unavoidable, then this invention attempts: (1) semi-statically signalling a CFI value on a cross-scheduled component carrier; (2) semi-statically signalling a channel quality information (CSI) value on a cross-scheduled component carrier setting a Physical Hybrid ARQ Indicator CHannel (PHICH) value to be maximum; or (3) semi-statically signalling a channel quality information (CSI) value on a cross-scheduled component carrier using Physical Control Format Indicator CHannel (PCFICH) power boosting on cross-scheduled component carriers (CC).

A method, apparatus, system, network element, and software product are used to provide a traffic signal, such as a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) signal, via high speed packet access. A transmission rate control method for controlling a transmission rate of uplink user data which is transmitted from a mobile station located in a predetermined cell to a radio base station, includes: notifying, from the radio base station to the mobile station, a transmission power offset of an Enhanced Dedicated Physical Data Channel to a Dedicated Physical Control Channel using a Common Absolute Grant transmission rate control signal which is transmitted through an E-DCH Absolute Grant Channel; determining, at the mobile station, the transmission rate which corresponds to the received transmission power offset; and transmitting the uplink user data at a transmission rate which is less than or equal to the determined transmission rate by decreasing the number of HARQ processes to be used and transmitting the uplink user data at the mobile station, when the determined transmission rate is below a transmission rate in the case of the uplink user data is transmitted using a minimum Transport Block Size at every HARQ process.
