Device communication and control in a home network connected to an external network

A method for providing user interfaces in a first network including first devices interconnected via a communication medium and an interface device connecting the first network to a second network having interconnected second devices providing services. The user interfaces are for controlling the devices that are currently connected to the first network and communication with devices that are currently connected to the second network. The method includes: (a) obtaining information from first devices currently connected to the first network, the information including device information; (b) obtaining information from second devices via the interface device, about the services of second devices connected to the second network; (c) generating a user interface description in one or more of the first devices based on the obtained information. The user interface description in each first device includes: (1) a reference associated with the device information of each of the first devices, and (2) a reference associated with the service information of each of the second devices. A user interface is displayed based on each user interface description on a device connected to the first network capable of displaying a user interface, for user control of the first devices and communication with the second devices. Displaying each user interface is based on using each reference in the corresponding user interface description to access the associated information in each device; generating the user interface including device and service corresponding to each device using the accessed information in each device; and displaying the user interface.

E-commerce development intranet portal

An intranet providing a multiple-carrel public-access kiosk is disclosed. The intranet provides free access to foreign and domestic informational e-commerce intranet sites as well as e-mail and public service educational and informational materials. The kiosk accepts anonymous pre-paid cards issued by a local franchisee of a network of c-commerce intranets that includes the local intranet. The franchisee owns or leases kiosks and also provides a walk-in e-commerce support center where e-commerce support services and goods, such as pre-paid accounts for access to paid services at a kiosk, can be purchased. The paid services provided by the carrel include video-conference and chat room time, playing and / or copying audio-visual materials such as computer games and music videos, and international e-commerce purchase support services such as customs and currency exchange. The third-party sponsored public service materials include audio-visual instructional materials in local dialects introducing the user to the use of the kiosks services and providing training for using standard business software programs. Sponsors include pop-up market research questions in the sponsored public service information and receive clickstream date correlated with the user's intranet ID and answers to the original demographic questions answered by the user.

Method of and system for finding consumer product related information on the internet using automatic registration solicitation techniques to help create upn/tm/pd/url data links stored in an internet-based relational database server

A novel system and method for finding product and, service related information on the Internet. The system includes Internet Servers which store information pertaining to Universal Product or Service Number (e.g. UPC number) preassigned to each product and service registered in the system, with Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) that point to the location of one or more information resources on the Internet, e.g. World Wide Websites, related to such products or services. Each client computer system includes an Internet browser or Internet application tool which is provided with a "Internet Product/Service Information (IPSI) Finder" button and a "Universal Product/Service Number (UPSN) Search" button. The system enters its "IPSI Finder Mode" when the "IPSI Finder" button is depressed and enters the "UPSN Search Mode" when the "UPSN Search" button is depressed. When the system is in its IPSI Finder Mode, a predesignated information resource (e.g. advertisement, product information, etc.) pertaining to any commercial product or service registered with the system is automatically accessed from the Internet and displayed from the Internet browser by simply entering the registered product's UPN or the registered service's USN into the Internet browser. When the system is in its "UPSN Search Mode", a predesignated information resource pertaining to any commercial product or service registered with the system is automatically accessed from the Internet and displayed from the Internet browser by simply entering the registered product's trademark(s) or (servicemark) and/or associated company name into the Internet browser.
