Embodiment I

[0190] Example I. Evaluation of post-emergent foliar-applied herbicidal mixtures for weeds in direct-sown rice prevention

[0191] Seeds or kernels of the desired test plant species are planted in a soil matrix by mixing loam or sandy loam (e.g., 28.6% silt, 18.8% clay, and 52.6% sand, with a pH of about 5.8 and organic The material content is about 1.8%) and calcareous gritstone in the ratio of 80:20. Place the soil substrate in a volume of 1 quart and a surface area of 83.6 square centimeters (cm 2 ) in a plastic jug. Fungicide treatments and / or other chemical or physical treatments are applied when necessary to ensure good germination and healthy plants. Plants were grown for 8-22 days in a greenhouse with an approximately 14h photoperiod maintained at approximately 29°C during the day and 26°C at night. Nutrients applied in the irrigation solution as needed (Peters 15-5-155-Ca2-Mg and iron chelate), adding water regularly. Supplemental lighting was provided whe...

Embodiment II

[0336] Example II. Evaluation of water-applied herbicidal mixtures for weed control in transplanted rice

[0337] Weed seeds or cores of the desired test plant species were planted in a silt soil (slurry) by mixing finely divided, non-sterile mineral soil (50.5% silt, 25.5% clay, and 24% sand, which pH is about 7.6 and organic matter content is about 2.9%) and water are prepared by mixing in a volume ratio of 1:1. Dispense the prepared slurry in 365-mL aliquots into 16-ounce (oz.) surface areas of 86.59 square centimeters (cm 2 ) in non-perforated plastic jugs, leaving 3 centimeters (cm) of headspace in each jug. In a plastic stopper dish, rice seeds are planted at SunGro 306 planting mix, the mix typically has a pH of 6.0 to 6.8 and an organic matter content of about 30%. Four days prior to herbicide application, transplant seedlings at the second or third true leaf stage of growth into 2 860mL of slurry in a 32-oz. non-perforated plastic jug. Paddy fields were create...

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 777,598, filed March 12, 2013, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] Protecting crops from weeds and other vegetation that inhibit crop growth is an ongoing problem in agriculture. To help combat this problem, researchers in the field of synthetic chemistry have produced a variety of chemicals and chemical formulations that are effective in controlling this unwanted growth. Many types of chemical herbicides have been disclosed in the literature, and a large number of chemical herbicides have been used commercially. However, there remains a need for additional compositions and methods that effectively control unwanted vegetation. Contents of the invention [0004] The application provides a herbicide, which comprises a herbicidally effective amount of (a) a compound of formula (I...
