Abstract

A capacitive sensor comprises a first conductive board and a second conductive board, wherein the first conductive board and the second conductive board are configured to form a capacitive circuit, wherein output of the capacitive sensor is at least partially based on capacitance of the capacitive circuit; a pressure-sensitive element is connected to the first conductive board and configured to be used for moving the first conductive board based on a pressure difference between two sides of the pressure-sensitive element so as to change capacitance of the capacitive circuit.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a capacitive sensor for measuring a change in capacitance, a device employing the capacitive sensor and a method for operating the device. Background technique [0002] Capacitive sensors and optical sensors can be used as an alternative to mechanical sensors for higher sensitivity. [0003] Conventional capacitive sensors include a permanently charged film that forms a capacitor with metal plates. This type of sensor is susceptible to humidity, moisture, fluid leaks, dirt, or other environmental factors that can cause failure by shorting and discharging both sides of the membrane. Furthermore, for permanently charged membranes, a voltage of about 10,000 volts needs to be applied to the membrane, making such sensors expensive and difficult to fabricate and not suitable for many applications. [0004] Therefore, a fault-tolerant capacitive sensor is cost-effective and relatively easy to manufacture. Content...
