Abstract

The invention relates to the field of plant breeding and provides a pistil treatment reagent for promoting plant wide hybrid seed set and an application method thereof. The reagent is mainly composed of boric acid, CaCl2, bovine serum albumin, mannitol solution and the like. The reagent is sprayed to the pistil stigma within 10-30 minutes before pollination, contributes to improving the setting percentage and has favorable influences on the seedling survival rate. By utilizing the method provided by the invention, cross-incompatibility among plant species can be effectively overcome, and the crossing barrier between ordinary wheat and pyrethrum and plants which is in the same family, but is in different genera, is effectively overcome. The experiment proves that the setting percentage of hybrid seeds is improved due to the method, the seed plumpness is high, and a novel way is provided for obtaining superior hybrid for plant wide hybrid.
