Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid, and orthoboric acid is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron. However, some of its behaviour towards some chemical reactions suggest it to be tribasic acid in Bronsted sense as well. Boric acid is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber, or precursor to other chemical compounds. It has the chemical formula H₃BO₃ (sometimes written B(OH)₃), and exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder that dissolves in water. When occurring as a mineral, it is called sassolite.

A boron-containing polyethylene glycol fatty acid ester surfactant belongs to the field of organic chemistry and functional materials. The boron-containing polyethylene glycol fatty acid ester surfactant is prepared as follows: polyethylene glycol (PEG), boric acid and fatty acid are used as raw materials, first esterification reaction of the PEG and the boric acid is performed, then esterification reaction of the PEG and the fatty acid is performed to obtain boron-containing poly ethylene glycol fatty acid ester; by changing the species of fatty acids and catalysts and molecular weight of the PEG, the esterification rate can be enhanced, the boron-containing poly ethylene glycol fatty acid ester product can be used as a surfactant, and the boron-containing poly ethylene glycol fatty acid ester can reduce water surface tension and has good emulsifying properties.
