[0013] overview

[0014] The present disclosure provides a system and method for live migration of a virtualized network stack.

[0015] The live migration occurs without interrupting the network connection between the first virtualized or non-virtualized network computing device and the migrating virtual network stack. The first virtualized or non-virtualized network computing device may be a virtual machine, switch, host or any other network device. The virtual network stack can be a virtual machine, a linux container, or any other type of virtual network stack. In the following examples, the first virtualized or non-virtualized network computing device is referred to as the first device, and the migrating virtual network stack is referred to as the virtual machine, but it should be understood that these examples are not limiting. And, it should be understood that these are only examples, and the concept can be applied to various scenarios. For example, a plurality of f...

Abstract

A method and apparatus are provided wherein a source (130) and a target (160) perform bi-directional forwarding of traffic while a migrating visitor (110) is being transferred from the source (130) to the target (160). In some examples, a migrating visitor (110) is confronted with an impending migration and takes action in response. The virtual network programming controller (180) informs other devices in the network of the change so that these devices can communicate directly with the migrated guest on the target host. According to some examples, an "other" virtual network device in communication with the controller and target host facilitates seamless migration. In such an example, the forwarding may only be performed before the other virtual machine receives the incoming packet from the target host and then the other virtual machine resumes communication with the migrated guest on the target host.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a continuation of US Patent Application Serial No. 14 / 310,492, filed June 20, 2014, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Live migration (Live migration) is the act of moving a running virtual machine from one host to another, which preserves virtual device connectivity, network connectivity, and virtual machine health status reporting. During migration, performance may be affected by, for example, pausing the virtual machine to copy memory, or by establishing a connection to the virtual machine's new host. Contents of the invention [0004] One aspect of the present disclosure provides a method for dynamic migration assisted by a virtualized network device, the method comprising: sending a packet to a migrating guest on a source host by the virtualized network device, and the packet will be forwarded by the source host to the target host; The ho...
