Abstract

Management of resynchronization procedures for Long Term Evolution (LTE) / LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems utilizing unlicensed spectrum is disclosed. In managing the resynchronization procedure, the base station selects and sends an activation indication for the selected uplink and / or downlink resynchronization procedure. A base station may select the resynchronization procedure individually or in coordination with neighboring base stations. Once an indication for the uplink resynchronization procedure is received at the user equipment (UE), the UE performs its Extended Clear Channel Assessment (ECCA) check, but when the ECCA check is successful, the UE will delay data transmission until selected by the UE. until the next resynchronization boundary defined by the uplink resynchronization procedure. In case of delayed transmission, the UE performs a Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) check before the re-synchronization boundary in order to determine whether the channel is still free for transmission after the idle period.
