Embodiment Construction

[0031] The ensuing detailed description is provided to illustrate example embodiments and is not intended to limit the scope, applicability, or configuration of the invention. Various changes may be made in the function and arrangement of elements and steps without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

[0032] As used herein, unless otherwise stated, the terms small cell, Home Enhanced NodeB (HeNB), Home NodeB (HNB), femtocell, and femto access point (FAP) are generally interchangeable way to use. For convenience and in accordance with TR-069 Standard, Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Wireless Access Network (WAN) Management Protocol, Issue No. 1, Revision 4, July 2011 (“TR-069”) (TR-069Standard, In keeping with Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Wireless Access Network (WAN) Management Protocol, Issue: 1 Amendment 4, July 2011 ("TR-069")), the term FAP is typically used here when discussing TR-069.

Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus for controlling policy in an integrated small cell and Wi-Fi network (ISWN) are described herein. It should be recognized here that multiple participants within an ISWN may have conflicting needs or preferences with each other, and that the best way to reconcile these conflicting needs is not always simply to give one participant preferential treatment over another. As described herein, optimal management decisions can be dynamically based on current network conditions as well as preferences of multiple participants.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 057,529, filed September 30, 2014, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference as if set forth herein. Background technique [0003] Integrated Small Cell / Wi-Fi Networks (ISWNs) can currently be built from commercially available products. figure 1 An example architecture of an example ISWN 101 including currently available commercial products is shown. For example, as shown, the ISWN architecture 101 includes a wireless controller 103 that controls one or more Wi-Fi access points 105 that broadcast the same SSID as one another. In an example split media access control (MAC) deployment, the access point 105 can control all 802.11 signaling between the network and connected Wi-Fi devices, and all data frames can be tunneled to the wireless controller 103 . The wireless controller can provide quality of service (QoS)...
