Embodiment Construction

[0022] Exemplary embodiments of surgical systems and associated methods of use are discussed in terms of medical devices for treating musculoskeletal disorders, and more particularly in terms of surgical systems and methods for correcting spinal disorders. In some embodiments, the surgical system may be employed in applications for correction of deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis.

[0023] In some embodiments, the surgical system includes a surgical instrument configured to apply tension to the sublaminar tether. In some embodiments, the surgical system includes a tensioner configured to apply tension to the tether and / or spinal construct. In some embodiments, the tensioner is configured to attach to a spinal construct such as a connector. In some embodiments, the tensioner is configured to attach to the connector via a mating surface. In some embodiments, the mating surface includes one or more slots. In one embodiment, the tensioner includes a mating element that ...

Abstract

A surgical instrument comprises a first member including a lateral projection having a locking surface that defines an elongated cavity. The locking surface is engageable with a longitudinal member to fix the longitudinal member with the first member. A second member includes at least one mating element being engageable with a spinal construct. The first member is axially translatable relative to the second member in a first direction to tension the longitudinal member and in a second direction to release tension from the longitudinal member. Systems and methods are disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices for treating musculoskeletal disorders, and more particularly, to surgical systems and methods for correcting spinal disorders. Background technique [0002] Spinal lesions and conditions, such as scoliosis and other abnormal curvatures, kyphosis, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, osteoporosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis, tumors, and fractures, can be caused by a variety of factors , said factors comprising trauma, disease and degenerative conditions resulting from injury and aging. Disorders of the spine often result in symptoms including deformity, pain, nerve damage, and partial or complete loss of mobility. [0003] Non-surgical therapies such as medication, rehabilitation, and exercise can be effective, but may not alleviate the symptoms associated with these conditions. Surgical treatments for these spinal conditions include revision, fusion, fixation, discectomy, lam...
