Problems solved by technology

One problem is that single-parameter warnings on etCO2 or respiratory rate often generate false alarms, or do not trigger an alarm when care needs to be modified to address the patient's hyperventilation
However, these metronomes have no feedback or sensor mechanism and are not aware of etCO2 levels

Embodiment Construction

[0020] To facilitate understanding of the present disclosure, a flow chart 10 representing the ventilation monitoring method of the present disclosure, executed by an application module in the form of the capnography monitor 20 and the respiration monitor 21 of the present disclosure, will now be described herein. From this description, those skilled in the art will appreciate how to apply the inventive principles of the present disclosure to a variety of monitoring devices with capnographic capabilities for incorporating breaths exhaled by a patient based on ventilation collectively indicative of patient hyperventilation. Multi-parameter hyperventilation warning capability for end-tidal CO2 and patient's respiratory rate.

[0021] refer to figure 1 , stage S12 of flowchart 10 encompasses the capnography monitor 20 which analyzes the patient's capnography waveform generated from the carbon dioxide exhaled by the patient. In practice, capnography monitor 20 may implement any t...

Abstract

A monitoring device having a capnography capability employs a ventilation monitoring controller including a capnography monitor (20) and a respiration monitor (21) for determining between a non- hyperventilating ventilation being applied to a patient and a hyperventilating ventilation being applied to the patient. In operation, the capnography monitor (20) analyzes a capnography waveform of the patient. The respiration monitor (21) determines the non- hyperventilating ventilation being applied to the patient based on an indication by an end-tidal carbon dioxide expired by the patient and / or arespiratory rate of the patient derived, partially or entirely, from the analysis of the capnography waveform by the capnography monitor (20), and determines the hyperventilating ventilation being applied to the patient based on a collective indication by both the end-tidal carbon dioxide expired by the patient and the respiratory rate of the patient derived, partially or entirely, from the analysis of the capnography waveform by the capnography monitor (20).

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to determining that hyperventilation ventilation is applied to a patient requiring forced ventilation due to airway problems, failure to ventilate, failure to oxygenate, or any other reason. The present disclosure more particularly relates to a multiparameter alarm that is applied to a patient based on hyperventilated ventilation determined by the patient's exhaled end-tidal carbon dioxide level and the patient's respiratory rate. Background technique [0002] During cardiac arrest (CA) resuscitation, unintentional hyperventilation of an intubated patient by advanced life support (ALS) rescuers paramedics is dangerous and may reduce the probability of successful resuscitation. Inadvertent hyperventilation has also been associated with poor outcomes in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). [0003] More specifically, during CA resuscitation or TBI management, an unconscious patient is often intubated with ...
