Embodiment Construction

[0046] figure 1 A perspective view of a safety steering column 10 for a vehicle is shown, which is formed as an angled steering column with two universal joints 11 , 12 . With regard to these universal joints 11 , 12 the safety steering column 10 can be divided into three steering column parts 13 , 14 , 15 which remain rigid themselves during normal operation of the vehicle. The crush element 1 is arranged on the first steering column part 13 and extends in the axial direction A; it is so configured that in the event of a frontal collision, the crush element 1 sequentially first compresses and then collapses, thereby preventing the safety steering column 10 from collapsing. The component penetrates the cockpit of the vehicle. When the axially acting threshold force F (more precisely figure 2 , 5 When a pair of forces shown in and 6) act on the crush element 1 and thus on the crush portion 4, compression and folding begin. The crush element 1 is here connected, preferably ...

Abstract

The invention discloses a crumple element (1) for a safety steering column (10). In order to provide a reliable, structurally simple steering column, according to the disclosure, the crumple element has first and second connecting portions (2,3) arranged axially at an end to connect adjacent steering column parts (16,17), and an interrupted crumple portion (4) arranged in between the first and second connecting portions (2,3), and is able to deform by a threshold force (F) acting axially, while the connecting portions (2,3) are deformation-resistant to the threshold force (F). The crumple element (1) is made integrally by additive production from metal. An end region (2.4) of the first connecting portion (2) facing the crumple portion (4) has a first portion (2.6) that protrudes axially relative to a second portion (2.7) lying opposite the first portion (2.6) transversely to the axial direction (A).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a crush element for a safety steering column. Background technique [0002] Motor vehicles use safety steering columns to increase driver safety in the event of a frontal collision. The safety steering column prevents parts of the steering column (especially the steering wheel) from being pushed into the cockpit. Various generally passive mechanical means are known to achieve this. One approach is to construct the steering column as a telescoping steering column, wherein one part of the steering column engages another part of the steering column, and upon exceeding a predetermined threshold force, one part of the steering column can be telescopically pushed into the other part, thereby Reduce the overall length of the steering column. The two parts may be connected together eg by a connecting element designed to yield when a threshold force is exceeded. [0003] Alternatively or additionally, a crush element may be provided...
