Abstract

A technique for performing clear channel assessment (CCA) in unlicensed radio frequency (RF) spectrum is described. CCA is performed for transmitting data according to a first RAT coexisting with a second radio access technology (RAT) (420). Regarding the method aspect of the technique, a signal is received in an unlicensed RF spectrum (411). The received signal is processed according to the operating state (411). Processing in the first operating state ( 402 ) causes a first delay that is greater than the second delay caused by processing in the second operating state ( 404 ). The operational state depends on the presence of data (420) to be transmitted in the unlicensed RF spectrum according to the first RAT. CCA is performed based on the processed signal.
