Benefits of technology

This technology uses data from different sources such as geology, petrophysics, hydrocarbon exploration, etc., along with factors like stress waves that affects how well these materials behave when they break down under pressure (stress). By analyzing this dependency relationships, it becomes possible to predict accurately what type of material will be found at risk during drilling operations without relying solely upon certain physical properties like density.

Problems solved by technology

This patented technical problem addressed during drilling operations involves accurately predicting the amount of hydrocarbons contained within subterranean formations due to their complicated nature. Current techniques involve performing various types of measurements like sonde characterization, depth migration, ellipsis analysis, etc., but they often suffer from imprecision and limited applicability depending upon environmental conditions. Gas saturaence has been proposed as another way to address these challenges.

Embodiment Construction

[0027] In order to make the purpose, technical solutions and advantages of the embodiments of the present invention more clear, the embodiments of the present invention will be further described in detail below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Here, the exemplary embodiments and descriptions of the present invention are used to explain the present invention, but not to limit the present invention.

[0028] Based on the pre-stack AVO attributes and petrophysical analysis results, it is shown that there are multiple solutions and uncertainties when a single seismic attribute or a single rock physical parameter is used to identify fluids. Only by comprehensively utilizing multiple information can the multiple solutions be effectively reduced. Based on the status quo of existing fluid prediction research technologies, the present invention proposes a gas saturation prediction method that simultaneously considers seismic attributes and elastic parameters, thereby reduc...

Abstract

The invention provides a gas saturation prediction method and device. The method comprises steps of through seismic channel analysis, carrying out screening to obtain seismic attributes of at least one gas saturation sensitivity; through rock physical analysis, carrying out screening to obtain elastic parameters of at least one gas saturation sensitivity; and based on the construction relation between a gas saturation sensitivity model, the elastic parameters and the seismic attributes, by use of the seismic attributes of at least one gas saturation sensitivity, and the elastic parameters of at least one gas saturation sensitivity, carrying out gas saturation prediction on a to-be-predicted reservoir. According to the invention, accuracy of the gas saturation prediction can be improved.
