Embodiment Construction

[0016] The present disclosure relates to robotics, and more particularly, to movable hard stops for movable robotic components (eg, robotic arms) of robotic systems. For example, a movable robotic member such as a robotic arm may be controlled by a control system. The control system may map the path of the movable robotic member prior to or while instructing the movable robotic member to move. The control system may map the path in view of the expected outcome of the movement of the mobile robotic component and in view of the environment surrounding the mobile robotic component. For example, a control system may map the path of a movable robotic component such that the robotic component interacts with objects (e.g., picks up, drops, moves, pushes, pulls, or lifts objects) without interfering with other aspects of the surrounding environment (e.g., walls not in contact with the environment).

Abstract

A robotic system includes a robotic arm and a movable hard stop disposed proximate to the robotic arm. The movable hard stop is separated from the robot arm by at least one gap in the first operating state. The movable hard stop physically contacts the robotic arm in the second operating state. The robotic system also includes one or more controllers configured to control movement of the robotic arm and movement of the movable hard stop such that the first operating state is maintained, or such that the hard stop stops if the second operating state occurs. Block the movement of the robot arm.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of robotics. More specifically, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to movable hardstops for movable robotic components (eg, robotic arms). [0002] Robotic systems are employed in many technical fields including manufacturing, medical and entertainment industries. For example, a robotic system may employ movable robotic components configured to facilitate assembly of components or systems in a manufacturing plant. The robotic system may also include control devices configured to limit the movement of the movable robotic member for various reasons, including the protection of the robotic system. It is now recognized that motion limitations caused or facilitated by control devices may unnecessarily limit the operation or mobility of a movable robotic component. Therefore, in conventional systems, the control device may unnecessarily limit the performance or efficiency of the movable ro...
