Problems solved by technology

Howling can cause catastrophic failure of certain portions of flexible piping and auxiliary equipment connected to such flexible piping, and can prove expensive to correct
Alternatively, according to conventional solutions, the fluid velocity of the transported fluid must be reduced to avoid whistling, which may lead to a degradation of the allowable supply volume

Embodiment Construction

[0087] Throughout this specification, reference will be made to flexible pipes. It should be understood that certain embodiments of the present invention are suitable for use with a wide variety of flexible pipes. For example, certain embodiments of the invention can be used with flexible pipes of the type manufactured according to API 17J and associated end fittings. Such flexible pipes are commonly referred to as non-bonded flexible pipes. Likewise, certain other embodiments of the present invention can be used with flexible pipes and associated end fittings for flexible pipes of composite type structures. This composite type of flexible pipe and its manufacture are currently standardized through API. Such flexible pipe can include adjacent tubular layers bonded together.

[0088] Go to figure 1 It will be understood that the shown flexible pipe is an assembly of a part of the pipe body and one or more end fittings, and the corresponding end of the pipe body is cut off in ea...

Abstract

Apparatus, flexible pipe body and methods are disclosed. The apparatus comprising at least one connector body comprising a first restraining arm portion and an opposed further restraining arm portion, each extending outwardly away from a common intersecting region of the connector body and comprising a respective locking surface, and at least one support arm portion that extends from the common intersecting region substantially perpendicular to the opposed arm portions and terminates with a flared end portion providing an abutment surface, wherein a distance between the common intersecting region and an abutment surface is less than 60% of said predetermined thickness.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for using adjacent hoop-shaped elements to provide a pressure resistant layer of a flexible pipe. In particular, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to adjacent windings of interlocking spirally wound bands or adjacent discrete hoops arranged in a side-by-side configuration to thereby form a skeleton layer and / or pressure protection layer of a flexible pipe. Background technique [0002] Traditionally, flexible pipes are used to transport produced fluids such as oil and / or gas and / or water from one location to another. Flexible pipes are particularly useful when connecting subsea locations (which can be in deep water, for example, 1000 meters or more), to sea level locations. The pipe may have an inner diameter typically up to about 0.6 meters (for example, the diameter may range from 0.05 m up to 0.6 m). The flexible pipe is generally formed as an assembly of a flexible pipe body and...
