Abstract

A magnetic wand is used for adjusting window blinds. The blinds include slats and a slat angle adjustment mechanism. The wand includes an upper housing portion and a handle portion. The upper housingportion has a connecting mechanism disposed on one end and a docking area on a second end. The connecting mechanism is adapted to connect the upper housing portion to the window blinds. A first magnetically attractive element is disposed within the docking area. The handle portion has an end shaped to fit within the docking area. The end includes a second magnetically attractive element. The second magnetically attractive element is adapted to releasably couple with the first magnetically attractive element through magnetic coupling, forming a magnetic joint. That magnetic joint is configuredto prevent the handle portion from longitudinally rotating independently relative to the upper housing portion.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a magnetic rod for a window blind, a window blind system comprising said magnetic rod and a cordless rod retrofit kit for a window blind system. Background technique [0002] The cords used to adjust the height of window blinds are a well-known safety hazard for children. The CPSC is calling for the elimination of cords to prevent injury and accidental death. The Drapery Manufacturers Association, the business association that includes nearly all manufacturers of corded and cordless blinds, has agreed that all inventory by 2019 will be cordless or include inaccessible cords to prevent unnecessary injury. This would account for approximately 80% of all window coverings sold in the US and Canada. [0003] However, cordless blinds are not for everyone. Corded blinds are often used by the elderly, persons of short stature or disabilities, or persons who have difficulty reaching windows. Whether due to the height and pos...
