Problems solved by technology

However, most clinics do not have and cannot afford dedicated IT staff
[0006] While there is a broad desire to use IT for treatment management, many existing electronic medical record systems do not meet the needs from a data structure or reporting perspective
Therefore, in the context of clinical workflow management, existing systems are considered to lack an understanding of medical user needs

Embodiment Construction

[0069] The examples described herein are applicable to any type of medical device, for example, a medical device that delivers medical fluids such as blood, dialysis fluid, replacement fluid, or intravenous ("IV") drugs. Examples are particularly suitable for renal failure treatments such as all forms of hemodialysis (“HD”), hemofiltration (“HF”), hemodiafiltration (“HDF”), continuous renal replacement therapy (“CRRT”), and peritoneal dialysis ( "PD"), which are collectively referred to herein or generally independently referred to as the treatment of renal failure. Alternatively, the medical device may be a drug delivery or nutritional fluid delivery medical device, such as a high volume peristaltic type pump or a syringe pump. The medical device may have any one or more of the following: one or more pumps, multiple valves, heaters (if desired), in-line medical fluid generation equipment (if desired), multiple sensors (such as pressure sensors, any one or more or all of a co...

Abstract

A medical device information technology ('IT') data transfer system in one embodiment includes a cluster domain, an external domain and an interface domain. Equipment belonging to the cluster domain may communicate in real time such that availability, safety, security, reliable integrity and performance are guaranteed. The external domain includes equipment not enabled for direct inclusion in thecluster domain, and may include equipment for external information systems, presentation equipment, personal computer equipment, shared medical equipment and bedside medical equipment. The interface domain enables external domain equipment to communicate with cluster equipment in a bidirectional manner. Communication may be via certain access nodes in the cluster. The access nodes enable exchangeof information between the open external domain and the closed and private cluster domain.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical device systems and, more specifically, to the management and operation of information technology ("IT") infrastructure connected to external systems like clinic information systems ("CIS"), billing systems, laboratories, etc. architecture. Background technique [0002] IT connectivity for healthcare systems was initially introduced only to a select group of healthcare providers and was strictly proprietary. Eventually, healthcare IT systems gradually began to rely on standardized solutions, which were considered advantageous from a cost and development point of view. On the downside, standardized solutions distribute the responsibility for the reliability of the IT system to several parties before the responsibility is assumed by the proprietary system provider, with the main responsibility being assumed by the relevant equipment manufacturers, CIS manufacturers and IT professionals. [0003] The co...
