Embodiment Construction

[0033] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in detail with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate like or corresponding elements of each of the several views. Furthermore, the term "proximal" or "caudal" refers to the portion of the structure that is closer to the clinician, while the term "distal" or "frontal" refers to the portion of the structure that is further away from the clinician. As is well known, the term "clinician" refers to a doctor (eg surgeon), nurse or any other care provider and may include support staff.

[0034] In the following description, well-known functions or constructions are not described in detail to avoid obscuring the disclosure with unnecessary detail.

[0035] about figure 1 , the surgical port system 100 is a multi-piece construction that includes a housing 200 that may be autoclavable and reusable, and a seal assembly 300 that is selectively removable from the housing 200. and can be discarded when r...

Abstract

The invention relates to a reusable surgical port with a disposable seal assembly. The surgical port includes a shell and a seal assembly. The shell has a housing and a cannula that extends from the housing. The housing has a sidewall defining a window therethrough. The seal assembly includes one or more seals. The seal assembly is selectively receivable into the housing through the window of thehousing of the shell.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to surgical instruments, and in particular to surgical ports having reusable and / or disposable components for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as robotic surgical procedures. Background technique [0002] Robotic surgical systems are already used in minimally invasive medical procedures. Some robotic surgical systems include a robotic arm having an instrument drive assembly coupled thereto, such as a pair of jaw members, electrosurgical forceps, a cutting instrument, or any other endoscopic or open surgical device to a surgical instrument coupled to the robotic arm; and a mounting assembly coupled thereto, such as a trocar or surgical port, optics, etc., to couple a surgical accessory to the robotic arm. [0003] Before or during use of the robotic system, surgical instruments are selected and connected to the instrument drive assemblies of each robotic arm, where the instrument drive assembl...
