Embodiment Construction

[0069] In the following description, blots were obtained according to ASTM F870-94:2016.

[0070] refer to figure 1 and figure 2 , figure 1 A tire 1 according to a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated, and figure 2 is a partial view of the tread portion of the tire 1 . The tire 1 includes: a tread portion extending in the tire width direction; a pair of sidewall portions (not shown) extending inward in the tire radial direction from both ends of the tread portion; and a pair of bead portions ( not shown), each bead portion is provided at an inner end of a corresponding one of the pair of side wall portions in the tire radial direction. In the tread portion, a plurality of ribs are formed by a plurality of main circumferential grooves (ie, extending in the tire circumferential direction). The tires may be pneumatic or non-pneumatic; preferably, the tires are pneumatic.

[0071] For example, the tires are all-season or winter tyres, preferably all-season ...

Abstract

A tire including a tread portion is disclosed. The tread portion comprises a first shoulder portion (11), a central portion (13) and a second shoulder portion (15). A first main circumferential groove (3) is provided between the first shoulder portion (11) and the central portion (13), and a second main circumferential groove (9) is provided between the central portion (13) and the second shoulder portion (15). Each of the first and second shoulder portions (11, 15) comprises a lateral groove (17, 21). One or both of the first and second shoulder portions have at least one of lateral grooves comprising one or more recesses (27). In one aspect, in and along a respective lateral groove, a total length of the one or more recesses ranges from 20% to 60% of a total length of the respective lateral groove in the tire footprint, and the one or more recesses are positioned at a distance from an axially inner end of the respective lateral groove.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a tyre, and in particular to a tire which can be used as an all-season tire or as a winter tyre. Background technique [0002] All season tires require a satisfactory level of running performance on snow-covered and icy roads as well as on dry and wet roads. In order to improve on-snow performance, the tread portion is provided with many lateral grooves extending in the tire tread width direction. The lateral grooves generate traction on snow (snow shear) by compacting snow on the road surface in the lateral grooves and then shearing it. Further, the edges of the lateral grooves generate friction by scraping compacted snow on the road surface. However, the presence of lateral grooves tends to make the tire less rigid. [0003] Several ways have been investigated to enhance the performance of winter or all season tires. For example, EP-A-0 455 925 provides an all-season tire tread comprising a plurality of laterally ...
