Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to asynchronous socket replication between nodes of a network. An example network device includes a primary node and a backup node. The master node performs a routing session with the peer-to-peer network device via the connected socket. The backup node includes one or more processors implemented in the circuitry and configured to execute a backup replication module to: receive data from the master node to be written to a backup socket for a connected socket; and in response to the handover, sending a representation of the data to the peer-to-peer network device via the backup socket.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to computer networks and, more particularly, to network devices (such as routers) that perform handover from a primary control unit to a secondary control unit. Background technique [0002] A computer network is a collection of interconnected computing devices that can exchange data and share resources. Certain devices in a computer network, such as routers, maintain routing information that describes routes through the network. Each route defines a path between two locations on the network. The router may generate forwarding information from the routing information, which is used by the router to relay the flow of packets through the network, and more specifically, to relay the flow of packets to the next hop. With respect to forwarding packets, the "next hop" from a network router generally refers to a neighboring device along a given route. After receiving an incoming packet, the router examines the information wit...
