Problems solved by technology

[0005] However, an increase in the transmission power of a terminal by the above-mentioned base station causes an increase in the interference of the terminal, thereby causing signal degradation
In order to compensate for signal degradation, these terminals need to increase transmit power, which may cause a vicious cycle of signal degradation

Embodiment Construction

[0014] In a mobile communication system, the base station measures the quality of the signal received from each terminal, such as the RSSI, SIR and BER of the signal, and increases the transmission power of the terminal to improve the signal quality if it falls below a certain level. To do this, the base station commands the terminals to increase their transmit power by sending a power control bit to the terminals. For example, the base station sends a "0" power control bit to command the terminal to increase the transmit power, and a "1" power control bit to command the terminal to decrease the transmit power. According to the present invention, the base station determines the number of terminals or effective channels for which transmission power needs to be increased, and compares it with a threshold. As a result, if the determined number is equal to or greater than the threshold, the base station commands the corresponding terminal to reduce the transmission power, and cont...

Abstract

A reverse power control method allows a base station to control transmission power of terminals. To this end, the base station sets a threshold value for the reverse power control, determines the number of the terminals requiring an increase in the transmission power and compares the determined number with the threshold value. If the determined number is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the base station commands the terminals to reduce the transmission power. However, if the determined number is smaller than the threshold value, the base station commands the terminals to increase the transmission power.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to power control of a spread spectrum communication system, and more particularly, to a reverse power control apparatus and method for reducing interference between terminals in which a base station controls the transmission power of the terminals. Background technique [0002] In a spread spectrum communication system, the base station compares the transmission power of the terminal with a threshold, and if it is greater than the threshold, commands the terminal to reduce the transmission power, otherwise instructs the terminal to increase the transmission power in order to receive a signal with the required strength. Reducing the transmit power of one terminal results in a reduction in interference to other terminals. [0003] The power control operation of the conventional CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) communication system will be described below. First, for base station reception operations, demodulators demodu...
