[0018] The invention discloses a locking device for fixing an actuator arm of a hard disk drive. The latch has a pawl portion engageable with the latch portion of the actuator arm. The latch also has a push rod portion and a bump stop portion that engages the actuator arm during movement to the latch position and prevents the latch from rebounding away from the actuator arm. The push rod and bump stop section eliminates the need for a separate bump stop in the hard drive. Elimination of a separate crash stop reduces the complexity and cost of mass producing hard disk drives.

Abstract

The invention discloses a locking device for fixing an actuator arm of a hard disk drive. The latch has a pawl portion engageable with the latch portion of the actuator arm. The latch also has a push rod portion and a bump stop portion which engage the actuator arm and prevent the latch from recoiling away from the actuator arm during movement to the latch position. The push rod and bump stop section eliminates the need for a separate bump stop in the hard drive. Elimination of a separate crash blocking element reduces the complexity and cost of mass producing hard disk drives.
