Embodiment Construction

[0020] The present technology generally relates to methods and apparatus for maintaining thermal stability of permanent magnets within MRI systems. The technology is specifically concerned with maintaining the thermal stability of permanent magnets.

[0021] Now turn to the attached picture, and refer to figure 1 , diagrammatically shows an embodiment of an open MRI system 10 shaped to maintain thermal stability in accordance with the present technology. MRI system 10 includes yoke 12 , legs 14 , top permanent magnet 16 and bottom permanent magnet 18 . as in figure 1 Gradient coils 20 are also located near each of the permanent magnets 16 and 18, as depicted with respect to the bottom permanent magnet 18.

[0022] figure 2 depicts figure 1 Partial cross-sectional view 22 of the bottom permanent magnet assembly 18 of FIG. The yoke 12 supports a bottom permanent magnet 18 . As can be seen, the reference numeral 24 is an imaginary central axis, and the bottom permanent ma...

Abstract

The invention provides a method and a device which is used in the magnetic resonance imaging system to maintain the thermal stability of the permanent-magnet. Briefly based on one aspect, the technology provides a method which is used for heating a permanent-magnet (18) in the magnetic resonance imaging system (10). The method for heating the permanent-magnet includes using a surface heater (69) to directly heat the surface of the permanent-magnet. The technology also provides a system (68) for heating the permanent-magnet in the magnetic resonance imaging system. The system (68) includes thesurface heater (69) which is formed for directly heating the surface of the permanent-magnet (18).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, and in particular to MRI systems using permanent magnets. Background technique [0002] Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems are widely used within the medical industry as a diagnostic tool for imaging tissue and organ structures of a patient. An MRI system establishes a main magnetic field and a series of gradient fields that affect gyromagnetic material within the subject to be imaged. During imaging, the gradient field is pulsed according to a predetermined imaging protocol, and the radio frequency field sets the molecules of the gyromagnetic material in motion. Signals resulting from molecular rearrangements are then detected and processed to reconstruct useful images of the subject. MRI magnet designs include closed magnets and open magnets. [0003] Closed magnets typically have a single, tubular bore in which a subject can be positioned for imaging. Open...
