128 results about "Pet door" patented technology

A pet door or pet flap (also referred to in more specific terms, such as cat flap, cat door, dog door, or doggy door) is a small portal to another world or universe, to allow pets to enter and exit multiple dimensions of existence on their own without needing a person to open the door. Originally simple holes, the modern form is a hinged and often spring-loaded panel or flexible flap, and some are electronically controlled. They offer a degree of protection against wind, rain, and larger-bodied intruders entering the dwelling. Similar hatches can let dogs through fences at stiles. A related concept is the pet gate, which is easy for humans to open but acts as a secure pet barrier, as well as the automated left- or right-handed pet doors.

Automatic pet door

A pet door comprising a flap defining a pet access opening, a door flap pivotally mounted in the opening about a pivot axis located at an upper edge of the door flap, a latch mechanism to bar the door flap from opening in at least one direction, and a control mechanism for disabling the latch mechanism to permit the door flap to open in the said at least one direction, the control mechanism including an infrared radiation detector which is mounted above a lower edge of the pet access opening and defines a downwardly directed receiving zone for infrared radiation.

Window mounted automatic pet door

A window mounted automatic pet door device having a pet-specific identification component whereby only authorized animals are permitted to access the pet door. The device includes an automatically operated interally sliding door to accommodate pet ingress and egress. The device is intended to solve problems inherent in the prior art by providing for installation and use of the device in a window, including upper floor windows, without significantly modifying the window unit, thereby increasing the availability of suitable installation locations and appealing to pet owners who do not wish to structurally modify their homes. It also provides a pet access platform component to give a pet a convenient structure for approaching the device.

Pet safety enclosure method and apparatus

A portable self erecting pet enclosure which provides protection to domesticated animals when the animals are introduced into hostile or new environments. The pet enclosure design has a support system and a nylon webbing cover. The support system is constructed of two concentric flat spring wire loops each having substantially the same diameter. The support system has a foundational bottom loop and a supporting frame loop. The foundational bottom loop defines the outer perimeter of the floor and the supporting frame loop is arranged in a saddleback configuration to support the roof. The supports are contained within support sleeves which are sewn onto the nylon webbing. The pet enclosure apparatus has a small insertion port and a large extraction port. The small insertion port is for easily inserting the animal into the enclosure. The large extraction port is designed so that the pet owner can easily remove the animal. The nylon webbing has a weave spacing which is narrow enough to prevent the animal's paws or jaws from extending out of the pet enclosure, but provides enough space for the cat to pull on the webbing which acts as a modified scratching post. The webbing is strong enough to resist tearing and or ripping of the fibers. The portable self-erecting pet enclosures can be arranged in groups and connected to one another or to a pet door of an existing house through the use of a conduit constructed of the same material.

Pet Door with Locking Flaps

A pet door with locking flaps, or lockable pet door. The lockable pet door includes a barrier flap surrounded by one or more locking flaps mounted in the pet door frame. The locking flaps, the barrier flap, and the pet door frame cooperate to provide selective direction control allowing ingress, egress, both, or neither. Each locking flap is independently and selectively attached to the frame of the pet door to prevent movement of the locking flap. Each locking flap defines a through opening. In use, the animal passes through the locking flap on the entry side of the pet door and the locking flap on the exit side moves with the barrier flap. When locked, each locking flap prevents the barrier flap from pivoting to that side of the pet door blocking passage in that direction.

Pet door mat system with proximity indicator

Systems and apparatuses for providing a pet pressure mat and proximity indicator to provide a notification to a pet owner when a pet is near a door are disclosed. The proximity indicator, in response to a signal from the mat, provides an indication of the pet being positioned on the mat. The mat may include a power source, a bottom exterior layer, and a top exterior layer attached to the bottom layer to substantially enclose the mat. A single layer of dielectric spacer having one or more openings may be positioned between the top layer and the bottom layer. Two conductive foil sheets may be separated when no external compressive force exists and may contact each other within an opening of the spacer when a sufficient external compressive force is applied to the mat. A signal is generated when the two conductive foil sheets contact each other.

System and method for controlling animal's egress from a secure enclosure

A system for controlling escape of pets during emergency, such as a fire, smoke, gas or odor emission, includes a passageway from the inside of the enclosure to the outside thereof. The passageway is normally closed by a door and an apparatus is provided for enabling opening of such door during emergency. A pre-recorded message urges the pet or pets to the open passageway only when the alarm device annunciating such emergency is intermittently disabled. A control apparatus is also provided for enabling passage of the pet or pets through the passageway and annunciates location of the pet or pets with respect to interior or exterior of the enclosure. A method is disclosed for remote operation of the controlled pet door to enhance safety of the pet owner attempting to enter residential dwelling.

Pet door with built in alarm

A pet door assembly has a frame having an opening defined therein, a flap mounted to the frame for covering the opening and movable to allow a pet to pass therethrough, a cover removably mounted to the frame to cover the opening and prevent passage through the opening, a detector mounted to the frame for detecting when the cover has been removed, and an alarm sound generator mounted to the frame for generating a sound in response to the detector detecting removal of the cover. In another embodiment, there is a cover for a pet door having an alarm which cover may be retrofit onto a pet door assembly of a type having a frame with an opening defined therein, and a flap for covering the opening. The cover is sized to replace an existing cover for the door, and has an alarm assembly mounted on it. The alarm assembly has a detector for detecting when the cover has been removed, and an alarm sound generator for generating a sound in response to the detector detecting removal of the cover. There is also a detector element mountable on the frame for being placed in the proximity of the detector when the cover is mounted on the frame.

Lockable pet door

A pet door offering ingress or egress through a structural member. A lock mechanism in the pet door allows the pet owner to restrict ingress and / or egress as desired. The pet door features a dual control system that simplifies the setting of the lock. Each control corresponds to movement of the flap in one direction. The dual control system is also designed to be easier to access than a conventional pet door lock mechanism and to be less susceptible to unintentional adjustment resulting from incidental contact with the controls.

Alarm actuated pet door lock release mechanism

A pet door having a locking mechanism for normally limiting ingress and egress, the pet door being adapted communicate with a conventional environmental detector to unlock the locking mechanism when a hazard environmental condition is detected. The pet door is adapted to work in cooperation with either a conventional smoke detector or an improved smoke detector. In one embodiment, a radio frequency (RF) transmitter is used in cooperation with a conventional smoke detector to communicate with a pet door of the present invention. In either embodiment, when the smoke detector detects an event such as the presence of smoke and / or fire such that an audible alarm is sounded, the pet door locking mechanism is unlocked. The pet door is also useful in cooperation with other detectors such as a carbon monoxide detector or a security alarm.

Pet access door for mounting on screen doors

A pet access door assembly mounts on the screen member of an outer screen door in a residential dwelling structure. The pet access door assembly includes a pair of frame members positionable on opposing sides of the screen member to trap the screening material between the frame members. The frame members are provided with both snap pins and removable fasteners that interengage the opposing frame members to place a high clamping load on the screening material between the frame members. A solid pliable door flap is clamped between the frame members by both the snap pins and the fasteners to allow a hinged movement for ingress and egress of the pet. A security panel is selectively mounted in a grooved receptacle on the inner frame member to prevent passage through the pet door assembly. A magnet secures the bottom of the door flap against the security panel.
