2736 results about "Momentum" patented technology

In Newtonian mechanics, linear momentum, translational momentum, or simply momentum (pl. momenta) is the product of the mass and velocity of an object. It is a vector quantity, possessing a magnitude and a direction in three-dimensional space. If m is an object's mass and v is the velocity (also a vector quantity), then the momentum is đ©=m𝐯, In SI units, it is measured in kilogram meters per second (kg⋅m/s).

Apparatus and methods for increasing the rate of solute concentration evolution in a supercritical process chamber

The present invention pertains to a system for processing semiconductor wafers. The processing may involve the removal of material from the wafers or deposition of material on the wafers. Various aspects of the invention include specialized pressurization, process vessel, recirculation, chemical addition, depressurization, and recapture-recycle subsystems. A solvent delivery mechanism can convert a liquid-state sub-critical solution to a supercritical processing solution and introduce it into a process vessel that contains a batch of wafers. The wafers may be rotated within the supercritical processing solution. The supercritical processing solution is preferably recirculated through the process vessel by a recirculation system. When chemical additives are added to a supercritical solvent, the momentum of the chemical additives are preferably matched to the momentum of the supercritical solvent. Additives may be added at a higher initial flow rate, then ramped down a lower flow rate, e.g., a steady-state flow rate.

Height Adjustable Phase Plate for Generating Optical Vortices

A phase plate including a plurality of surfaces arranged around a symmetry axis to reflect an incident electromagnetic field having a null orbital angular momentum, thereby generating a reflected electromagnetic field having an orbital angular momentum. The surfaces are arranged such that, with respect to a cylindrical reference system in which the azimuthal coordinate is measured in a plane perpendicular to the symmetry axis, the respective heights define a non-monotonic azimuthal profile, so that the reflected electromagnetic field forms an optical vortex whose topological charge is not associated one-to-one to the orbital angular momentum.

Irrigated ablation catheter with improved fluid flow

An irrigated ablation catheter includes a tip electrode with a thin shell and a plug to provide a plenum chamber. The tip electrode has an inlet of a predetermined size and noncircular shape, and outlets in the form of fluid ports formed in the thin shell wall. The plurality of the fluid ports is predetermined, as is their diameter. The tip electrode thus considers a diffusion ratio of total fluid output area to fluid input area, and a fluid port ratio. The tip electrode also considers a fluid inlet aspect ratio where the fluid inlet has a noncircular (for example, oval or elliptical) radial cross-section. The plenum chamber has a narrow proximal portion opening to a wider distal portion so that fluid pressure decreases while fluid velocity increases with the desired effect of increased turbulence which decreases momentum for a more uniform distribution of fluid in the tip electrode. Extending distally from the plug is a baffle member shaped to diffuse fluid entering the tip electrode and to house an electromagnetic position sensor.

Controller of legged mobile robot

The occurrence of a slippage of a robot in operation, following a desired gait, is determined, and the permissible range of a restriction object amount, such as a floor reaction force horizontal component or a floor reaction force moment vertical component to be applied to the robot, is variably set according to a slippage determination result. A provisional motion of a desired gait is determined using a dynamic model, and if the restriction object amount defined by the provisional motion deviates from the permissible range, then the motion of a desired gait is determined by correcting the provisional motion by changing the changing rate of the angular momentum of the robot from the provisional motion so as to limit the restriction object amount to the permissible range, while satisfying a dynamic balance condition.

System for generating electricity by using gravitational mass and/or momentum of moving vehicle

A mechano-electrical energy generation system generates electrical energy from the passage of a vehicle over an inclined ramp assembly. This assembly includes an incline ramp that is rotatable about an axis proximate a vehicle roadway surface, and a safety decline ramp hinged with and rotatable with the incline ramp. The incline ramp is coupled via a roller assembly to a gravity wheel that drives a flywheel coupled to an electrical generator. As a result, passage of the vehicle over the incline ramp rotates the wheel via the roller assembly and drives the flywheel so that the electrical generator outputs electrical energy. When the vehicle exits the safety decline ramp, a counterweight rotates the wheel in a reverse direction, so as to bring the incline ramp and safety decline ramp to back to their original inclined positions above the roadway surface.

Attitude control system for space vehicle and method thereof

The invention discloses an attitude control system for space vehicle and a method thereof. The control system has only one biased momentum wheel, one set of tri-axial magnetic torquer and one attitude controller loaded with algorithm. The method comprises a step of rate damping controlling, a step of initially capturing controlling and a step of stationarity controlling. At the rate damping stage, geomagnetism change is used to control the magnetic control of three passages of a satellite by B-dot; at the initially capturing stage, the magnetic control is realized, PD control is performed by pitching and the passages are rolled and yawed to carry out nutation and precession composite control; at the stationarity controlling stage, the magnetic control is realized, PD control is performed by pitching and the passages are rolled and yawed to carry out nutation and precession composite control. The capturing stage and the stationarity controlling stage fully depend on magnetic torquer to perform positive magnetic control, thereby changing which a satellite only uses a magnetic torquer to carry out unload of the momentum wheel or auxiliary magnetic control, so as to refine system configuration to further improve reliability of the system. Momentum of a satellite is biased to rotate on the ground, so as to ensure stable separation of the satellite without performing air injection control. Therefore, the magnetic torquer can be used for realizing fast and stable initial rate damping.

Interceptor projectile with net and tether

An interceptor projectile includes a deployable net that deploys during flight and wraps around an incoming projectile, such as a rocket propelled grenade (RPG). The net is initially in a tubular body of the interceptor projectile. A propellant is used to deploy the net from the body. Even after deployment the net remains attached to the body by an elastic tether. The engagement of the net with the incoming projectile disables the incoming projectile, with the momentum imparted by the interceptor projectile sending the incoming projectile off course. This successfully defends a target against the incoming projectile. Through the tether, substantially all of the parts of the interceptor projectile may be mechanically linked together even after deployment of the net. This mechanical linking provides more momentum for impacting the interceptor projectile, which may facilitate diverting the incoming projectile.

Oscillating air jets for implementing blade variable twist, enhancing engine and blade efficiency, and reducing drag, vibration, download and ir signature

A porous surface on an aircraft structure driven with oscillating positive and negative pressures is used as an active control device for attenuating negative aerodynamic interactions. The porous surfaces can be driven with positive and negative pressures either continuously or when predetermined flight conditions are present. The porous surfaces can be used on rotor blades to reduce BVI noise in descent flight conditions. The porous surfaces can be configured on rotor blades for affecting blade variable twist in accordance with various flight conditions, and can further be incorporated for reducing rotor hub vibrations as well. Porous surfaces placed on aerodynamic surfaces below the rotor blades of a tiltrotor aircraft can attenuate or eliminate download and fountain flow conditions. When placed on the trailing edges of a tip jet-exhaust driven rotor blade, the porous surfaces of the present invention can supplement the tip jet momentum of the exhaust to thereby reduce an amount of exhaust needed to drive the rotor blade.
