The invention discloses a method and a system for searching for mails, which is used for solving the problem that the current speed for searching for mails is slow. The method of the invention comprises the steps as follows: the content of the mail received by a mail client terminal is split into key words, the corresponding relation between each key word and the mail is input into a mail search engine; and when a user searches for key words in the mail, the mail search engine calls out the related mail according to the corresponding relation of the key words in order to complete the mail search. The invention comprises the mail client terminal, a splitting unit which is used for splitting the content of the mail received by the mail client terminal into the key words, an input unit which is used for inputting the corresponding relation between each key word and the mail into the mail search engine, the mail search engine which is used for calling out the related mail to complete the mail search according to the corresponding relationship between the key word and the mail when the user searches for the key word in the mail.
