Abstract

A network component comprising a processor configured to implement a process comprising receiving a request for a content from a first node, determining whether a second node is associated with the content, and facilitating the transfer of the content from the second node to the first node when the second node is associated with the content, wherein the second node is an interior node. Also disclosed is a method comprising receiving a request for a content from a first node in a network, determining whether the content is being distributed to a second node in the network, calculating a path between the second node and the first node when the content is being distributed to the second node, and establishing a connection along the path such that the content is distributed from the second node to the first node.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to multicast technology, and more specifically, the present invention relates to a network component, method and network for content-based transport layer multicast. Background technique [0002] In modern transmission networks, there are applications for transmitting multiple data streams, such as multiple IPTV channels, from one source site via multiple nodes to multiple remote sites or multiple customer sites. These nodes may include: routers, switches, and / or other types of nodes. In some embodiments, the source may broadcast all data streams such that each remote site receives the same number of data streams. In this case, these nodes transmit data from the source to various remote locations, a process known as broadcasting. Alternatively, remote sites will request specific data streams, in which case separate connections may be established from the source to each remote site for the delivery of the requested data s...
