Abstract

This invention related to fluid logic for regulating restriction devices, provided methods and devices for regulating a restriction system. In one exemplary embodiment, a restriction system is provided having a restriction device configured to receive fluid and to form a restriction in a pathway corresponding to an amount of fluid contained therein, at least one fluid reservoir, and a fluid logic system coupled between the restriction device and the at least one fluid reservoir. The fluid logic system is configured to regulate an amount of fluid in the restriction device in response to a fluid pressure acting thereon.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for creating a restriction in a passageway, and more particularly to a fluid logic system and method for controlling fluid pressure in a restriction system. Background technique [0002] Obesity is a growing concern, especially in the United States, as the number of obese people continues to rise and as more is learned about its negative health effects. Morbid obesity, in which a person weighs 100 pounds or more above ideal body weight, in particular poses a significant risk of serious health problems. Therefore, a great deal of attention has been focused on treating obese patients. One method of treating morbid obesity is to place a restrictive device, such as an elongated band, around the upper portion of the stomach. A gastric band typically includes a fluid-filled elastic bladder with fixed endpoints that surrounds the stomach just below the esophagus-gastric junction, creating a small gastri...
