[0035] figure 1 The configurations of the ink ribbon cassette and printing apparatus of the first embodiment are explained. refer to figure 1 , the character carriage is fixed on a part of the pitch belt 118 and supports the print head 113 thereon.

[0036] Pulleys 117a and 117b are mounted on a drive shaft (not shown) of pitch motor 116 and are configured to rotate on the drive shaft. When the pitch motor 116 is powered on, the pitch motor 116 drives the pitch belt 118 to rotate, so that the carriage 115 and the print head 113 move in the directions shown by arrows A and B.

[0037] Pulley 117b meshes with gear 124a, which meshes with gear 124b. The gear 124b is coupled to another drive shaft concentric with the drive roller 123 in the ribbon cassette 112A. Once the user installs the ink ribbon cassette 112A on the side frames 119a and 119b, the drive roller 123 is coupled to a drive shaft (not shown).

[0038] Thus, when pitch motor 116 is powered, the drive shaft is dr...

[0054] Figure 5 The general configuration of the ink ribbon cassette 112B and the printer of the second embodiment will be described. Components similar to those of the first embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and their descriptions are omitted.

[0055] Figure 6 is along Figure 5 A cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in , shows the relevant portion of the ink ribbon cassette 112B. A hook 120c is formed in the lower ink tank 120b. When the lower ink tank 120b moves toward the upper ink tank 120a, the hook 120c is hook-engaged with the engagement portion 120e formed in the upper ink tank 120a.

[0056] Figure 7 is a top view of the relevant part of the second embodiment.

[0057] refer to Figure 7 , the character carriage 115 includes a protrusion 115b at its lower end portion. The lower ink cartridge 120b is set in the passage of the protrusion 115b so that when the carriage 115 moves along the arrow A( Figure 5 ) is moved in the direction s...

[0078] Figure 11 The general configuration of the ink ribbon cassette 112C and the printer of the third embodiment will be described. Figure 12 is along Figure 11 A cross-sectional view taken along line C-C in FIG. 1 shows the relevant portion of the ink ribbon cartridge 112C. Figure 13 It is a perspective view illustrating the shutter 137 and the ink ribbon cassette 112C.

[0079] The shutter 137 is formed of an amorphous rosin material that is easily worn out compared to other types of synthetic resins, and is held in a sandwiched relationship between the ink replenishment sheet 121 and the transfer roller 122 . The shutter 137 passes along the arrow Y( Figure 13 ) is inserted into the cutouts 125a and 125b formed in the case 112C of the ink ribbon cartridge to be installed.

[0080] refer to Figure 14 and 15 , the tension spring 134 pushes the shutter 137 in the direction shown by the arrow A all the time. The end 137a of the shutter 137 protrudes into the cuto...

Abstract

An ink ribbon cartridge includes an ink replenishing configuration. An ink ribbon (111) is housed in a housing (125). An ink replenishing member (121, 120d) replenishes ink into the ink ribbon (111). An ink storing member (127) holds a supply of the ink, the ink storing member (127) being movable either to a first position where the ink storing member contacts the ink replenishing member and supplies the ink to the ink replenishing member (121, 120d) or a second position where the ink storing member does not contact the ink replenishing member and does not supply the ink to the ink replenishing member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an ink supply mechanism for an ink ribbon incorporated into a printing apparatus including a serial dot impact printer. Background technique [0002] Some traditional dot and impact printers incorporate an ink ribbon cartridge equipped with an ink supply mechanism. FIG. 16 illustrates one such printer disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. H08-192560. Referring to FIG. 16, a conventional dot impact printer is equipped with an ink ribbon cassette 112D having an ink ribbon 111 of endless type impregnated with liquid ink. The print head 113 is mounted on a carriage 115 . The ink ribbon 111 extends through the gap between the printhead 113 and the paper 114 . Printing needles 113 (not shown) of the printhead strike the ink ribbon 111 to print on paper 114 . [0003] The amount of ink (not shown) on the ink ribbon 111 is reduced in performing printing. The ink cartridge 120 supplies ink to the ink ribbon 111 . [0...
