A pulsed mode wave with a defined frequency can be sent by the transmitter. The receiver measures this signal, either as two single pulses or as one pulse with very high amplitude. Depending on the position of the transmitter of the gantry, these alternating kinds of pulses can occur. Highly accurate rotational speed measurement is possible by intensity measurements of received pulses or by detuning the transmitter and receiver frequencies and measuring interfering pulses.
