Abstract

The present invention provides methods and apparatus for determining the relative electrical position of lighting units (202a, 202b, 202c, 202d) arranged in a linear configuration along a communication bus (204). The method may include addressing each lighting unit (202a, 202b, 202c, 202d) in the linear configuration once and counting the number of events detected at the location of each lighting unit. The number of detected events may be unique to each electrical location, thereby providing an indication of the relative position of the light emitting units in a linear configuration. The method may be implemented at least partially by a controller (210) common to a plurality of lighting units of the lighting system, or may be substantially implemented by the lighting units (202a, 202b, 202c, 202d) themselves.
