Embodiment Construction

[0025] Some embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0026] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a multiple access network for user terminals 11 to access information sources 10 according to one novel aspect. The Radio Access Network (RAN) is the part of a mobile telecommunications system that implements radio access technologies. In most geographic areas, a multi-access network is generally available for user terminals 11 to access information sources 10 (eg, the Internet) as well as obtain mobile data services. Examples of different radio access network types include GSM radio access network, UTRA or E-UTRA cellular access network, WiMAX system and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). If multiple RANs support the same air interface (air interface), then the entire access network is a homogeneous network. On the other hand, if multiple RANs support different air interfaces (eg, cellular and WiFi), t...

Abstract

The invention provides a multi-access Internet interconnection method, which provides integrated cellular and WLAN access for multi-access devices. In the cellular network, the serving base station first acquires WLAN information, and then forwards the WLAN information to the service device, so that the service device can connect to the cellular network and the WLAN. The WLAN information may include scanning information, WALN QoS information, WLAN Layer 3 information, or additional WLAN access point information. The WLAN information is forwarded based on a trigger event, wherein the trigger event is related to serving base station information, WLAN coverage information, or serving device information. Based on the received WLAN information, upon entering WLAN coverage, the service device initiates WLAN access to forward traffic from the cellular access network to the WLAN access network. When leaving the WLAN coverage, the serving device disables WLAN access to save power consumption.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] The present invention is based on 35 U.S.C. §119 requirements, filed on March 12, 2010, application number 61 / 313,182, entitled "Method of Smart Interworking to Support Integrated Multi-Radio Wireless Communication Terminals in Heterogeneous Wireless Communication Networks" U.S. provisional application , and priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 423,160, filed December 15, 2010, entitled "Method of Smart Interworking to Offload traffic from Cellular Network to WiFi Network"; incorporated herein by reference to those applications Application subject. technical field [0003] Embodiments of the present invention relate generally to wireless network communications and, more particularly, to multi-radio interworking of heterogeneous wireless communication networks.
