Embodiment Construction

[0031] In short, the present invention can be used for devices located in a local network to provide registration with the multimedia services network, thereby enabling incoming calls and session requests to be directed to the appropriate specific device in the local network, without the need for each The private public identity of the device. The home gateway may be HIGA specified in TISPAN, and the multimedia service network may be an IMS network, but the present invention is not limited thereto.

[0032] When a local device is powered on or otherwise activated in a local network, it automatically sends a local registration request to the home gateway, which is very normal behavior for any local device capable of connecting to a local network. In this solution, the home gateway is configured (or "provisioned") with one or more public identities that are also valid in the external multimedia service network (eg, IMS network). The operation of configuring various parameters f...

Abstract

Method and arrangement in a home gateway (202) of a local network (200) for providing registration in an external multimedia services network (IMS) for one or more local devices present in the local network. When a local registration request is received (2:2) from a first local device (A), a mapping or association of a corresponding identification of the first local device to a first public identity which is valid in the multimedia services network, is stored (2:3) in the home gateway. The first public identity is then registered (2:4) together with the identification of the first local device in the multimedia services network for the first local device. Any incoming call or session request referring to the first public identity will be directed by the multimedia services network to the first local device. Thereby, the home gateway can be made less complex.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to methods and apparatus for implementing multimedia services in an external network for devices in a local network. Background technique [0002] A large number of different types of communication terminals or devices have been developed for packet-based multimedia communication using IP (Internet Protocol). Multimedia services generally involve the transmission of media in different formats and combinations over IP networks. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has also developed an architecture called "IP Multimedia Subsystem" (IMS) that enables such multimedia services and sessions for user terminals connected to different access networks. The signaling protocol "SIP" (Session Initiation Protocol) is generally used for IMS services controlled by a specific session control node in the IMS network. [0003] 3GPP further defines various solutions and mechanisms for the next generation of multimedia te...
