An electronic key system costing short time from receiving a requiring signal to sending a response signal is provided. The electronic key system comprises: a vehicle-mounted control part (21) carried on a vehicle (2), wherein, in the case of sending the requiring signal containing random data to a preset communication area and receiving the response signal for the requiring signal, when an operating result contained in the response signal is judged to be right, motion of a door locking device or starting of an engine control device is allowed; an electronic key control part (11) which is carried on an electronic key (10) and used for performing operation for the random data contained in the requiring signal from a vehicle, and sending the response signal containing the operating result; and a bit number measuring part (11a) which is carried on the electronic key and used for measuring receiving bit number of the requiring signal, wherein, when the bit number measuring part judges that the random data contained in the requiring signal has been received completely, the electronic key control part begins to operate.
