Abstract

A fastening connector emergency release tool is shown and described, designed for underwater operation when the underwater fastening connector (14) fails to release normally. The emergency release tool is adapted to be remotely steered and operated by an operational grade ROV tool. The tool includes a fastening connector (14) adapter housing (7) matched with and connected to the main body of the fastening connector (14), a rotatable hole mounted on the housing (7) A saw (11), a rotary motor (1) drivingly connected to said rotatable hole saw (11), and a piston (3) and cylinder assembly (4, 5). The piston (3) and cylinder assembly (4, 5) are capable of pushing the rotatable hole saw (11) around the jack screw of the fastening connector (14) body into the fastening connection the main body of the connector (14) to separate the jack screw together with the threaded portion of the fastening connector body (14), thereby separating the jack screw from the main body of the fastening connector (14) open.
